2007 ACS National Convention Breakout Session Discusses "Climate Change and Other 'Hot' Topics"
What major environmental law and policy issues are swirling around climate change, particularly in the wake of the Supreme Court's Massachusetts v. EPA decision this past Term? In particular, the Court's resolution of standing issues in this case is examined with a focus on the decision's effects upon all complex environmental litigation. Panelists also explore the administrative law ramifications of the court's scrutiny of agency inaction and what such scrutiny means for agencies that refuse to take action authorized by statutes within their purview. More broadly, what can be done at the federal, state and local levels to combat complex environmental problems, like reducing the production of CO2 and other greenhouse gases?
