Senate Confirms Hamilton to Seventh Circuit

  • By a vote of 59-39, the Senate confirmed President Obama's first judicial nominee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit this evening. Judge David Hamilton's nomination proceeded past a threatened filibuster earlier this week when the Senate voted for cloture 70-29.

Details of the confirmation vote are available here.

Other nominees also progressed in the Senate today. The Judiciary Committee forwarded two nominations for consideration of the full Senate: Jane Branstetter Stranch to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, by a vote of 15-4; and Judge Christina Reiss for the District of Vermont, on a voice vote.

Vermont Judge Christina Reiss comes from the Vermont Family Court, which legislates (Vermont VSA 665, one of 3 states still doing this) that parents are not equal, that their is only ONE primary parent, and if that primary parent separates they are permanately REWARDED with exclusive child custodial rights, and vast financial rewards proportionate to the amount of conflict. By this law Vermont incents conflict, divorce, and discrimination.

Judge Chrisina Reiss did nothing to stop this terrible inequality, and in fact profitted many years from this Vermont law VSA 665, all at the expense of thousands of innocent chidlren and parents. She should not have been awarded a position in U.S Federal Court.
