Poverty & Politics Reading Group: CT Rep. Staples & YLS Prof. Geballe
Connecticut Rep. Cam Staples and YLS clinical Prof. Shelley Geballe discuss poverty and inequality in Connecticut. Continuing on the theme introduced by Mayor DeStefano, Rep. Staples and Prof. Geballe will explain that there are in fact "two Connecticut's"--one, the Connecticut of phenomenal wealth, of Greenwich and Darien and Yale; the other, the Connecticut of deep urban poverty, of New London and Bridgeport and Hartford. While the first Connecticut, in many ways an extension of New York City, receives most of our attention, the other Connecticut is sliding further into poverty, despite the state's immense wealth. What are the options available?
