Philadelphia Lawyer Chapter Hosts a Special Screening of "A Class Apart"

The Philadelphia Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society hosted a special screening of the award-winning documentary, A Class Apart, which chronicles the landmark Latino civil rights case, Hernandez v. Texas. Following the film, the audience heard from a distinguished panel featuring The Honorable Juan Ramon Sanchez of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and Carlos Sandoval, Producer and Director of A Class Apart. The Honorable Nelson A. Diaz Of Counsel at Cozen O'Connor and former Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge, moderated the discussion, which focused on the continuing impact of the Hernandez decision on jury issues in the Third Circuit, and on the prospects of utilizing the class apart theory to expand equal protection rights to groups currently facing discrimination today.

This screening would not have been possible without the generous sponsorship of McCarter & English LLP.

Cosponsors included Active Voice, the American GI Forum of the United States, the American Bar Association's Commission on Racial & Ethnic Diversity in the Profession, the American Bar Association's Presidential Advisory Council on Diversity in the Profession, the American Bar Association's Council on Racial and Ethnic Justice, Equal Justice Society, the Hispanic National Bar Foundation, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, Latino Public Broadcasting, Public Broadcasting System and the Scribe Video Center.
