Sotomayor's Opinions Analyzed: Media Law
-
The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (RCFP) is compiling a report of Judge Sonia Sotomayor's record on the First Amendment and media law. RCFP's initial post looks at three opinions by Judge Sotomayor. The first is a 2005 opinion striking down a gag order regarding the prosecution of a banking executive. In a 1994 opinion, written during her service as a federal trial judge, Judge Sotomayor dismissed defamation and trade libel claims against CBS. And in a freedom of information request case, Judge Sotomayor ordered the Justice Department to release the suicide note of former deputy White House counsel Vince Foster.
This is the second ACSblog post in a continuing series collecting analyses of opinions by Supreme Court nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor. An overview of Judge Sotomayor's opinions in civil cases is available here.
