On Tuesday, July 15, the Columbus Lawyer Chapter hosted a Supreme Court Term Review featuring Jones Day partner Douglas Cole, State Treasurer Richard Cordray and Ohio Solicitor General Benjamin C. Mizer. Both Treasurer Cordray and Mr. Cole are former Ohio Solicitors General. Alexandra Schimmer of Vorys, Sater, Seymour & Pease (and a member of the Columbus Chapter's Steering Committee) moderated the event, held in a packed room at the Athletic Club of Columbus. The wide-ranging discussion covered the major issues of the 2007-08 Supreme Court Term, including the Second Amendment, the habeas corpus rights of Guantanamo detainees, punitive damages, and voter ID requirements.
