On October 9, 2008, the Austin Lawyer Chapter presented a program on the high profile legal case involving the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) polygamist religious compound in West Texas. Texas authorities raided the compound and sought to remove the children from their parents. The matter was discussed by three lawyers who represented the interests of the individual FLDS parents: Julie Balovich of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, Robert W. Doggett of Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, and Amy Warr of Alexander Dubose Jones & Townsend LLP. The speakers discussed their experiences in litigating this unique case, and the challenges and disputes they encountered.
