Voter Protection Volunteer Opportunities
There are several opportunities to support voting rights in your community and nationally. Here are a few opportunities:
Serve as a Poll Worker
There are many local and state elections this fall that will set the stage for next year, and you can help. It may not be a national election year, but eyes are already on developments that will directly
impact the 2026 midterm elections. The need for qualified volunteers, especially lawyers and law students, to support democracy is more important now than ever. Poll workers power our
democracy and serving as a poll worker is a valuable way to give back to your community, support your neighbors, and be part of the democratic process. The deadline and requirements to apply to
be a poll worker vary by state. Sign up and learn more here.
Election Protection
The national, nonpartisan Election Protection coalition works year-round to ensure that all voters have an equal opportunity to vote and have that vote count. Volunteers are needed now to help
with various efforts. Volunteers provide voter information, help run hotlines, document problems, and work with partners and volunteers on the ground to identify and remove barriers to voting.
Election Protection focuses on the voter and provides guidance, information, and help so that everyone who is eligible can access the right to vote. If you are interested in volunteering, sign up
here.
We The Action – Democracy Legal Defense Network
Attacks on our democracy have continued to increase in scale and intensity as we approach General Election Day on November 3, 2026. That’s why We The Action launched the Democracy
Legal Defense Network last month.
The Democracy Legal Defense Network connects lawyers with critical pro bono opportunities to safeguard our democracy — before, during, and after every election. Now you can find every available pro bono project in one place with our 2026 Guide to Voter Protection Opportunities for Lawyers.
Whether you want to volunteer from home, in your state, or travel to another state, We The Action has pro bono voter protection opportunities that fit your interests and schedule.
Black Voters Matter
Black Voters Matter offers a variety of ways for volunteers to get involved, whether helping with both in-person and virtual clinics, voter education and mobilizations efforts, or coordinating joint
programs with student and lawyer chapters. Email LCEmails@acslaw.org to start volunteering and visit their website here.
Election Official Legal Defense Network
Elections in the United States are under siege, whether by misinformed citizens or by partisan actors in state, county, and federal leadership. Election workers have been weathering threats and
attempts to intimidate and interfere, but they are nonetheless persevering so they can run elections for their communities. They adhere to their election administration standards regardless
of any personal partisan affiliation.
Attorneys can directly support these election workers and help them withstand and counter these attacks by joining the Election Official Legal Defense Network (EOLDN). EOLDN is a nationwide,
nonpartisan project that matches pro bono attorneys with election officials who are facing job-related harassment and intimidation. EOLDN seeks more volunteer attorneys across the nation as
we prepare for the 2026 general election and beyond. EOLDN is also available to lead trainings for chapters and can coordinate on in-person or virtual programming. Email LCEmails@acslaw.org to learn more about volunteering.
