Sunstein Nominated to Head OIRA

April 21, 2009
The White House has officially announced the nomination of Cass Sunstein to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) in the Office of Management and Budget. OIRA is responsible for reducing government paperwork and performing cost-benefit analyses of federal regulations. Sunstein, currently at Harvard Law School, taught at the University of Chicago Law School for 27 years.

In a recent pair of articles for the Harvard Law & Policy Review, the official journal of ACS, Sunstein explored regulatory issues. The articles, including responses from economist Frank Ackerman and now-senior EPA adviser Lisa Heinzerling, are available here.

President Obama issued this statement with the announcement of Sunstein's nomination:

As one of America's leading constitutional scholars, Cass Sunstein has distinguished himself in a range of fields, including administrative law and policy, environmental law, and behavioral economics. He is uniquely qualified to lead my Administration's regulatory reform agend at this crucial stage in our history.
