Governor Schwarzenegger Praises Minutemen

April 29, 2005

The Associated Press reports that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger praised the Minuteman Project which patrols the Mexican-American border to stop illegal immigrants from entering the United States, and indicated that he does not oppose Minuteman plans to expand its patrols to California. Chris Simcox, a Minuteman organizer, commended Schwarzenegger for "responding to the will of the people." The Mexican-American Political Assocation, however, criticized the remarks as "nothing short of base racism." President Bush has denounced the Minutemen as vigilantes.
