U.S. journalist Jill Carroll has been released, after being held captive in Baghdad since January 7 of this year.

Major television networks have refused to air an adverstisement for the United Church of Christ, in which the church promotes a policy of acceptance of homosexuality. The text of the commercial reads, "God doesn't reject people. Neither do we." In response to the decision, NBC spokeswoman Kelly Brown said that the church's ad "violates [NBC's] long-standing policy against airing commercials that deal with issues of public controversy." CBS spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs characterized the ad as "advocacy advertising."

The highest court in Massachusetts has ruled that same-sex couples from states in which same-sex marriage is prohibited cannot receive a marriage license from Massachusetts. For the court, Justice Francis Spina wrote that the state "has a significant interest in not meddling in matters in which another state, the one where a couple actually resides, has a paramount interest."

Marketwatch reports that profits of United States corporations have increased by 21.3% since last year. The report also notes that "the share of national income going to wage and salary workers has fallen to 56.9%," which is the lowest percentage since the 1966.
