Kara Stein, Director of Policy Development and Programming

 

Kara Stein joined ACS in April 2010 and currently serves as the Director of Policy Development and Programming. In this capacity, she focuses on constitutional interpretation and change, judicial nominations, the First Amendment and immigration.

Before joining ACS, Kara was the American Jewish Committee’s Director of Legal Advocacy. In that role, she was responsible for coordinating AJC's amicus participation in cases concerning church-state separation, religious liberty, and civil rights and worked closely with AJC’s regional offices to implement AJC policy, particularly in the area of immigration. Before joining AJC, Kara practiced as an associate at a litigation boutique in New York.

Kara graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1990, the New York University School of Law with a J.D. in 1995, and Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government with a Master of Public Administration in 2005.
