Lead Plaintiff in Roberto Alvarez vs. the Board of Trustees of the Lemon Grove School District (1931), the nation’s first successful school desegregation case, which reintegrated the grammar school in the Lemon Grove community of San Diego after the segregation of Mexican students.  Presenting the award was be Roberto Alvarez’s son, Dr. Robert R. Alvarez, Jr., Professor Emeritus of Ethnic Studies at UC San Diego.
